The Danish Cultural Institute is an independent institution financed by the Danish Ministry of Culture and by own revenue.
The supreme authority is the council with up to 60 members. Institutions dealing with international cultural cooperation can be appointed for the council. They are appointed for four years. Each institution appoints its own representative.
Individuals from – and of influence to – international cultural cooperation can also be appointed as members of the council. Two members are elected among- and by the staff, who fix the election period themselves. Each political party in Folketinget, the Danish parliament, is offered to appoint its own member.
The board of The Danish Cultural Institute consists of seven members. The chairperson and the deputy chairperson of the council are also chairperson and deputy chairperson of the board as the case may be. Further three members of the council are elected. The two members, elected by the staff for the council, are also members of the board.
