On Monday 22nd March Director Kim Minke will be in conversation with Herald columnist Iain Macwhirter about the challenges facing journalism today. Kim Minke is the former director of the Danish School of Journalism in Aarhus and has published various books and articles on journalism.
Journalism in the western world is in a crisis. Part of it is economic. With new media, especially www, a split has been introduced between advertising revenue and journalism and much advertising revenue has been diverted to media and websites that do not carry journalism. But there is also a content-related crisis that has arisen between journalism and the public, its former customers. Especially young people seem to consume less journalism at irregular intervals and in a more distracted mood.
The talk will centre on these changes and discuss how modern journalism may become more relevant again.
